1. Who is responsible for your data

I am the controller of the personal data described in this policy, under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

2. What data I collect and why

Contact form and email

When you write to me through the contact form or by email, I receive the details you give: your name, email address, the service you are interested in, your message and, if you fill it in, your preferred time for a Session 0 / meeting.

• Purpose: to reply to your request and, where relevant, to take steps at your request before a service is agreed.
• Legal basis: taking steps at your request before entering into an agreement (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) and my legitimate interest in answering enquiries (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
• How long I keep it: for as long as needed to answer you and, if we work together, for the duration of the service and the periods required by law. If no service follows, I delete the correspondence within 12 months.

Coaching and Portuguese lessons

Personal data of clients and students (for example session notes, level assessments, scheduling and invoicing details) is handled under the agreements and informed-consent statements that you sign when you start a service. Those documents describe what is collected and why. Coaching sessions and Portuguese lessons are confidential.

• How long I keep it: for the duration of the business relationship and, after it ends, for 7 years — the same period Dutch tax law requires for invoicing records, which also comfortably covers the normal limitation period for any claims.

Website visits

If you accept statistics cookies in the cookie banner, I use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages are viewed and where visitors come from (for example Instagram), and whether the contact form is used. The data is anonymous in the sense that I do not know who you are, but it relies on a random identifier stored in a cookie.

• Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). You can refuse, and you can change your mind at any time with "Cookie settings" at the bottom of every page.
• Provider: Google Ireland Limited, acting as my processor. Google signals and ad personalisation are off, and data sharing with Google for other purposes is off. The data is not used for advertising.
• How long I keep it: event-level data is kept for a limited period set in the tool (the minimum available, currently 2 months), and the cookies last up to 2 years.

The site uses no advertising or tracking tools. If you reject, no statistics tool is loaded. Like any website, the hosting provider automatically processes technical data needed to deliver the pages and keep the site secure (such as IP address, browser type and time of request).

3. Who receives your data

I use a small number of service providers who process data on my behalf:

• Hosting: Vercel (serves the website).
• Website statistics: Google Analytics (Google Ireland Limited), only if you accept statistics cookies.
• Email: Zoho Mail (hosts the mailbox that receives your messages).
• Domain: Namecheap (domain registration; does not receive visitor data).
• Video calls: Microsoft Teams (online coaching sessions and lessons).
• Material sharing: Google Drive (documents and resources shared with students and clients).
• Messaging: WhatsApp Business (not yet in use; this document will be updated once a phone number is in place) — for quick scheduling confirmations and direct contact.
• Social media: Instagram and Facebook (Meta). If you follow the About eu account or page, or send a message there, Instagram and Facebook process your data under their own privacy policies, as separate controllers. I use the messages you send only to reply to you. The website only links to Instagram and Facebook and does not load any Instagram, Facebook or Meta code.
• Booking sessions: Calendly (manages availability and scheduling for clients and students already enrolled in a service; not used by the general public).

I do not sell your data and I do not share it for advertising. Providers may process data outside the EU/EEA; when that happens, the transfer relies on a safeguard required by the GDPR, such as an adequacy decision or standard contractual clauses.

4. Your rights

You have the right to access your data, correct it, ask for it to be erased, restrict or object to its processing, and to receive a copy of it in a digital format. To exercise any of these rights, email mariana.macedo@about-eu.com. I will reply within one month.

If you are not happy with how I handled your request or your data, contact me at mariana.macedo@about-eu.com, with the subject line "Complaint", and I will try to resolve it. If you are still not satisfied, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Dutch supervisory authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens (autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl), or with the authority in your own country.

I do not make automated decisions or create profiles: all decisions about your request or service are made by me, personally.

5. Children

This website is not directed at children. Lessons for minors are only arranged with the consent of a parent or legal guardian, as set out in the informed-consent statement.

6. Changes to this policy

I may update this policy. The date at the top shows when it was last changed.
